It Is Truly “Better To Give Than Receive.”

As has been the tradition at Kimball Construction, staff, suppliers and associates have joined together to help needy families in Baltimore County with our annual “Helping At The Holidays” program. Coordinated efforts were managed by Kimball employees and generous contributions were received from many friends and business partners including: Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, ARC Construction Services, and Enterprise Electric Company.

This year, three families were presented with wrapped children’s gifts including a family from the Calvary Baptist Church in Dundalk and two families via the Mason Dixon Community Association. Kimball works with the community to find families that are truly in need of a helping hand to make their children’s Christmas brighter despite their situation.

One family’s father is out of work and on medical leave with no compensation and during his medical absence learned that the company is moving out of state and he will be losing his job. Gifts and clothes were delivered to the children.

The other families have three children each and are facing economic uncertainty. One recently had a home fire and the other lost the use of their car.

This year’s “Helping At The Holidays” program resulted in over two dozen wrapped children’s gifts and clothes, sponsorship of the Ronald McDonald House with toys and gift cards. Plus over one thousand food items were collected and donated to the Maryland Food Bank.

Kimball Construction thanks everyone for their generous contribution of funds, time shopping, wrapping and delivery to these appreciative families in our communities. This program reminds us all that it is truly “better to give than receive.”

Kimball’s SUPERintendent: Gary Ziervogel

For Gary Ziervogel, Superintendent at Kimball, juggling responsibilities is nothing new. Aside from his 25 years in the construction business, Gary, along with his wife Erica, are raising four boys, ages 7 to 14, in school, baseball, soccer, and Boy Scouts. Multi-tasking is a way of life at home and during Gary’s days working on projects for Kimball. Since 1996, when Gary joined the team, his responsibilities with Kimball have gone from carpenter, foreman, general foreman, and since 2002, superintendent.

During a hot July in 2000, Gary recalls a very intense job for General Motors, a shut- down doing demo and concrete work, performing over a million dollars of work in just two weeks. “It was exhausting, we were throwing everything we had in that short time-frame but most importantly, and we got the work done on time.”

In addition to his work at Kimball, Gary manages his sons’ baseball and soccer teams, is commissioner of the Middle River Baseball Program and works with the Boy Scouts of America.

“I have worked through three recessions over my career and I am very thankful to Kimball for providing a steady work flow and solid working environment. We agree, Gary, and we are thankful for people like you who support our mission every day. Well done.

Clean Coal Solutions Engages Kimball For CyClean Installation.

During a recent visit with Constellation Energy at its CP Crane Generating Station to discuss a maintenance project, Kimball Construction Senior Project Manager, Gar y Gribble, was introduced to one of Constellation Energy’s equipment vendors. Clean Coal Solutions was under contract with Constellation Energy to furnish and install CyClean; a combustion additive technology designed to help cyclone boilers improve operability and meet stringent environmental regulations with a 20% reduction in NOx and a 90% reduction of mercury emissions.

During the initial meeting Clean Coal Solutions expressed to Gary the need to quickly mobilize a team that was familiar with work conditions and safety requirements at the facility and have the ability to provide a turn-key solution for installation of the equipment. Having an extensive background and work experience with Constellation Energy, Kimball was prepared to hit the ground running.

Kimball negotiated a T&M agreement with Clean Coal Solutions and quickly assembled a skilled team that included Potts & Callahan, Inc., Genesis Steel, Baltimore Steel Erectors, Baytown Painting, Consolidated Industries, United Crane & Rigging and Enterprise Electric Co. This “dream team” was selected because of their prior expe- rience working together on multiple projects at the CP Crane plant.

Kimball’s scope of work included; site preparation, foundation installation, steel fabrication & erection, painting, installation of the CyClean Equipment, connection of electrical power & com- munication systems, demonstration and testing the operation of the facility. Kimball also provided design/assist services for the foundation system by providing structural engineering and third party inspection consultants.

CyClean is a cost effective coal additive that is added to the coal just prior to the crusher, enabling it to be evenly distrib- uted in the coal supply before combus- tion. CyClean comes in a granular form that is added to a coal supply belt with a simple storage and conveying system.

Clean Coal Solutions has invited the Kimball team to work with them on additional project installations in the area.
